About the Dental Public Health Emergency Clinic (DPHEC)

With support from Health Canada, the DPHEC was launched in 2026 to enhance access to oral health care.

The following patient groups may be eligible for assistance with uncovered costs through this initiative:

•    Children (ages 0-17 years)
•    Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Métis and Inuit)
•    Newcomers to Canada (temporary residents, asylum seekers and refugees)
•    Official language minority communities (see more information here)
•    People experiencing homelessness
•    Persons with disabilities
•    People from rural and remote communities
•    Seniors (persons aged 65+)
•    Others, including people living on low incomes who do not qualify for public dental programs and any other vulnerable individuals who are not able to access care

Patients must agree to fill out required health and dental forms.

Research Study

DPHEC patients may be asked to participate in a research study. Joining this study is voluntary, anonymous and confidential. Participating in the study will not impact your ability to access emergency care at our clinic.

The study aims to understand the use of emergency dental services. You will receive a consent form to review at the clinic before deciding to participate.

If you choose to participate, you may be asked the following through a survey questionnaire before and after your visit:
•    Information about you and your oral health
•    How your oral health affects your daily life
•    Barriers you may face in getting dental care

Your answers will be used only for research purposes.

Funder Information

This initiative is funded by Health Canada’s Oral Health Access Fund (OHAF)

The OHAF is a grants and contributions program led by Health Canada, and it is designed to complement the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). The fund aims to expand access to oral health care by supporting projects that reduce or remove barriers to accessing oral health care for targeted populations. This initiative is expected to run until March 2028.
